Minor Cup Team
 Thursday 24 September 2009 – Semi Finals
The Minor Cup team, Carol McGrath, Jan Lindsay, Maire Donnelly, Kathleen Morrow and Noeleen Houston played against Rush GC in the semi-finals.   An immaculate majestic parkland course, in full autumnal colours and glorious sunshine was the setting for this exciting and tight match, which Rockmount won. The team had qualified for the second time to play in the All Ireland Final – surely an outstanding achievement.

In 2007 at Athlone, three team members Carol, Maire and Noeleen had achieved this success. Congratulations to Carol who won 2/1, Jan had a 1 up win and Noeleen (the Team Captain in 2007) had an excellent 5/4 win.  Maire and Kathleen’s matches were called in.

Friday 25 September 2009 – The Final In perfect golfing conditions the same team faced Blessington Lakes in a very tense and challenging match. The team played some excellent golf but were out played by their very strong and well-coached opponents, who used their caddies to maximum effect. Carol lost 5/3, Jan 3/2, Noeleen 5/4, Maire was 2 down at the 15th – but was called in and her match was declared a half and Kathleen was 3 down when called in. Although very disappointed not to bring back the coveted green pennant this year – the outstanding success of the team finishing as ‘Runners – Up’ must not be minimalised.  We were told that 1,400 teams took part in these Championships, with over 8,500 matches being contested! Congratulations and thanks must go to the squad of eight - especially to Vi Anderson, who had played in every match to the Northern Final but who was sadly unable to be with us in Royal Tara - and also to Daphne Beggs who was on holiday.  They all played their matches from April in the true golfing spirit and personally, it has been a very great privilege and pleasure to be the Captain of such a very enthusiastic, successful and committed team.  Our sincere thanks to Lady Captain Helen, our caddies, our sponsors and our supporters who did so much to help us in this challenge.  I earnestly hope that some time in the near future that it will be third time lucky and that the green pennant will find its way to Rockmount.
