Farewell from Captain Frank McWilliams

I have come to the end of my year as your Captain. It has been a most wonderful honour and a great privilege for me to be your Captain in 2018 with 52 weeks of many great memories. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed every minute and it is a year that will live long in the memory.

I have tried to fulfil the obligations of the Captain supporting the wide range of inter-club matches turning up and cheering our teams during the course of the  year. It was a great pleasure to attend matches, visiting clubs across the land and I would like to place on record my thanks to the Team Captains, Vice Captains, Players and supporters for the dedication and commitment shown in representing Rockmount golf club this year. You have all been a great credit to our club. I personally enjoyed playing in the Junior Cowdy Team under the Captaincy of Kevin Coyle with a wonderful bunch of guys.  Great memories.

For my year in office I have been afforded huge respect and goodwill from members which I will never forget. Thank you all. My Job as Captain was greatly enhanced by the quality and competence of the gents committee who work tirelessly to ensure our club operates with great efficiency for the benefit of the membership. I am indebted to the committee for their unwavering support and cooperation during the year. There are so many highlights from the year.  These include in no particular order:

  • The mixed away day under blue skies at Bushfoot golf club. Winter was well and truly behind us.
  • The Juniors winning the Ronan Rafferty for the first time in 10 Years cheered on by members in great numbers. Nice that a number of past Captains were in attendance for the presentation on the 18th green ( Mark Wynne played in the 2008 team) This year Mark lifted the club Championship with rounds of 72, 70. Very impressive golf indeed.
  • Victorious in the JB Carr regional Final
  • Tiny life Charity day with £7,500 raised for this most worthy cause.
  • Abba and Elvis at Rockmount and much more.
  • Captains away day to Bettystown- The summer had well and truly arrived.
  • Guide dogs for the blind - £3,500 raised. Thank you all for your wonderful support. The name of our puppy is soon to be revealed.
  • The Junior Captains Day – A great day for all the Juniors.
  • So near in 2 Cowdy finals under the wonderful Captaincy of Kevin Coyle and Tommy McCabe respectively.
  • A memorable Winter League dinner with Mr Liam Beckett as our guest speaker.
  • The Captains Charity Quiz in September with £1200 raised for the Lady and Gents Captains Charities.
  • Bringing the Max Hadden trophy to the club in July.
  • A memorable Captains day and night in August.
  • Being with our wonderful Juniors and their support at Killymoon for the Ronan Rafferty Final and seeing at first hand the dedication and commitment of all involved.
  • Being at Armagh and watching past Captain John lifting the Cowdy club of the year for 2017. Maybe we can have a repeat for 2018!
  • The support and encouragement from Kevin Stevens GUI.
  • The interaction with and the inputs and support from all the Rockmount Enterprises team.
  • The Rockmount Staff. Service with a smile at all times. Philip, Brenda, Ryan, Michael, Lauren, Joseph, and all the team. Not forgetting Nigel and the Kitchen team.
  • The Ryder Cup event in September so wonderfully organised by Tom Sloan and Anne Mc Shane.
  • A wonderful home golf course always maintained in the very best of order. A great team led so expertly by David. My thanks.
 And so many, many, more…………….

My thanks to Lady Captain Patricia. Patricia has been a wonderful Lady Captain this year and has represented Rockmount with distinction. It has been a true delight to work alongside Patricia to support the best interests of the Ladies gents and junior sections and I extend my bet wishes to her going forward.

I also extend my congratulations to our Junior Captain, Frank Mc Williams. Frank has had a wonderful year leading our Junior Section with many great memories along the way. I take this opportunity to thank Frank for his sterling efforts and commitment to the Junior section and wish him every success for the future.

I extend my sincere congratulations to incoming Captain Tom and his Vice Captain Martin and also to incoming Lady Captain Anne and Lady Vice-Captain Jenny and also to incoming Junior Captain Euan. Every good wish for the year ahead. I can assure you all of my support going forward. I would also like to place on record my thanks To Paul and Heather Duggan for their support for all mixed events this year. Thank you both.

I talked about evolution last year in my opening address and I am proud to think that in 2018 Rockmount Golf Club has moved forward in a positive and beneficial way, as our profile continues to grow in golfing circles.

So gentlemen, whether it’s the best of times, or the worst of times, it’s the only time we have got. Continue to enjoy your golf, consider joining a team next year and enjoy the wonderful club, course and facilities on offer.
It has been an immensely rewarding and enjoyable year and for that, I thank you all.
