Rockmount gents Captain for 2018, Mr Frank McWilliams, has selected Guide Dogs N.I. to be his chosen charity for his year in office.

Ann Carnachan, a puppy walker with Guide Dogs N.I., was invited to the recent joint committee meeting at Rockmount with her colleague Ulrick, an 8 month old golden retriever, to tell of the great work being carried out by this privately funded charity.  Ann spoke about the work of Guide Dogs throughout the U.K. where there are currently 20 million people living with sight loss, a number expected to double by the year 2050!  Ann went on to say;  “there are around 180,000 blind or visually impaired throughout the U.K who are scared to leave their homes for fear of dealing with the obstacles of their everyday lives”.

The Guide Dogs organisation is currently responsible for 8,000 dogs across the U.K. with each dog having a lifetime cost of £55,000.  There are around 5,000 guide dog owners in the U.K. whose dogs have enabled them to keep their independence and live their lives to the fullest.    It’s clear to see the value of the work carried out by Guide Dogs across the U.K. and Guide Dogs N.I. locally.  The organisation receives no funding from the Government and is solely reliant on donations from private individuals and organisations.

Rockmount Captain, Mr Frank McWilliams, will be holding various fundraisers throughout the year and would greatly appreciate the support of members, their friends, families and business connections.  There are donation boxes located in the pro-shop, restaurant and members lounge where any donation is a welcome addition to this vital charity.
