Rockmount complete 'Lap the Lough' for charity

Nine members took part in the 85 mile cycle around Lough Neagh on 30th August.

Pictured with the Margaret Harrison (Lady Captain) in their new jerseys prior to the event kindly part sponsored by Andrew Morris Golf and Rockmount Golf Club are the nine cyclists, Colin Childs, Jeff Lamb, Barry Douds, Ed Donaldson (Captain), Martin Lawther, Henry Moore, Darren Majury, Peter O'Hara and Stevie Anderson.

All the team made it around the Lough with the exception of Barry who after 50 miles unfortunately had to withdraw due to a knee injury. Up to that point Barry was looking strong and would have completed the trip without any problems had it not been for the injury.

Before we got to the start line Jeff had to replace a tube in his tyre and called upon the services of our expert bike mechanic Henry to help him out (see photo).

Once we got going the weather was fine and the route was reasonably flat (a few hills here and there).

With over 2000 cyclists taking part, as you can imagine, the craic was great.

Our Captain, Eddie was a few miles from the finish line when he blew a hole in a tyre and so had to complete the journey on a flat tyre...not easy (a few extra calories burned there).

After the event all the team headed back to Rockmount for a few 'refreshments' and 'juicy steaks' and to talk about our aches and pains.

Many thanks to the 'Lap the Lough' organisers who ensured a very smooth running event enjoyed by all participants.

The team were raising funds for the 'Friends of the Cancer Centre' and if you would like to make a donation, please log on to www.justgiving.com/rockmount
