We played away first, despite constraints on dates and player availability, we turned out a very determined 3 pairs. Our combined handicaps of 41, 42 & 46 took on 35, 36 & 37. Catherine and Christine led the way on a bright sunny afternoon, followed by Maire & Patricia with Joyce & Bernie bringing up the rear. Having lost the first two matches on 13 and 17, Joyce and Bernie managed to win 17 to take their match down the last. Cue bunker shot from Bernie which hit the flag and dropped onto the green to give Joyce the chance for a putt to win the hole and the match which she duly did.

1 match and 7 holes down was a lot to make up when we returned to the Rock but another determined 6 turned out. It was not to be ~ Moyra & Alwyn never got in front, Maire & Sue managed to win on 15, and Diane & Anne were called in whilst playing 17.

There's always next year..........

The junior foursomes team took on Balmoral in the first round of the competition; both legs were played in a very friendly and sporting manner. We left Balmoral having won 1 1/2 matches and with one hole up. A great win from Rosie McCrea and Sue McDonagh was backed up with a sporting half match from Diane Patterson and Anne Wynne. Whilst they were beaten, Maire Donnelly and Joyce Millar kept their match live until the 17th to give us that one hole advantage.

Another bright sunny afternoon greeted us for the return match and all to play for, with two new pairings on the team. The news was all positive through 9 and 12, with Diane and Sue proving victorious on the 13th. The remaining two matches were very close with Maire and Joyce coming up 15 dormie; meanwhile Moyra Evans and Alwyn Higham were 1 up playing 17. Moyra and Alwyn won the 17th just moments before Maire and Joyce had the same success on the 15th green.

Home tie
The second round of the junior foursomes was against Knock. The first leg at Rockmount was played on a bitterly cold day with a fierce wind blowing. To quote Moyra Evans "I've never been so cold on a golf course in my life!" This was after a long battle which produced a half match, unfortunately the other couples were both beaten, so an uphill struggle faced us for the return leg at Knock when, thankfully the weather was rather more summery!

Away tie
As I was playing Miele, and Helen Hall (Miele team captain) was playing foursomes, Helen ably assumed the role of team captain on the day - many thanks for that. We needed all three matches, and facing a pairing who could do no wrong, unfortunately we lost a match.
Many thanks to everyone who played, maybe next year......

Both matches were played in great spirit, with every one being nip and tuck - the only other constant was the wind. A very tight match at Rockmount when we got 1½ matches and were 1 hole up led to a very tense return leg at Dunmurry.

The first match was lost 5 and 4 and the second group won 5 and 4 - so all down to the last pairing who went 2 down after 14 but managed to win both 15 and 16 to be all square playing 17. A very sporting half on 18 was enough to secure the win; the team captain has some nails left - but only just!

Well done to all who played

Great excitement and massive credit to the team for getting to the Northern final at Lisburn.
The team went off to practice on the Thursday before the match and worked out their strategies.
The tee time on Saturday was 4pm, which was rather late. However the weather had brightened up and remained dry with not much wind.
I had appointed Jan Lindsay to be my Vice Captain and it was great to have her support during the match. I always knew what was happening as text messages were flying between us.
We had to arrive in Lisburn at least 45 minutes before the match to hand in our handicap list to the ILGU officials. It was great to see Jo Donaldson in the office at Lisburn.
By the time we were ready to go to the first tee there were quite a few Rockmount supporters including the Captain and his wife.
Diane and Sue had tough opponents and the match remained very tight until they unfortunately lost on the 17th hole.
Moyra and Lorraine played really well to fight off the opposition and win on the 13th.
Everyone was on tenderhooks watching Leonie and Christine battle with their close match. After an eventful 16th hole they were dormie coming up the 17th and won the hole to win the match.
It was now 8.15 pm and we rushed to get a team photo taken and go in for the Prizegiving .
After a quick meal and speeches we returned to celebrate at Rockmount

We were now into the All Ireland Finals in Courtown Wexford at the end of September. The Semi-final is against either Munster or Mid-Leinster on Friday 28th September at 9.30am. If we win, the final will be on Saturday 29th September at 10.40am. All Supporters very welcome.

I would like to thank Jan Rosie and Alwyn for their support at the match and to all the many Rockmount supporters who came along.

What a BRILLIANT team! I couldn’t be more proud of you.

The date for the semi-final had been set at the beginning of the year and unfortunately clashed with our Lady Captains Day. I tried very hard to get an alternate date but the ILGU were not prepared to make any changes. This meant that our Lady Captain Lorraine was unable to play. Helen Hall was brought into the team in Lorraine’s place.
We arrived in Bangor, in a very determined mood, that we would do our best to take good news back to Lady Captains night at Rockmount. The weather was perfect with sunshine and not much wind. The course had mostly dried up after the recent wet weather.
The two teams were very evenly matched and the Shandon putting was very impressive.
Moyra and Helen got off to a great start and were 5 up after 6 holes. The other two pairs kept very level throughout most of the match.
Luckily the first two Rockmount pairs started to edge ahead as they approached the 16th, Diane and Sue won on the 17th with Sue sinking the winning putt!   Leonie and Christine won their match on the 18th with a wonderful long downhill putt from Leonie!
Moyra and Helen were unable to keep their early lead but were all square coming from the 17th. We had won the match so they didn’t need to finish.
The Shandon Park team were very disappointed to be beaten but gracious in defeat and wished us luck in the next round.
I would like to thank Rosie and Alwyn for their support at the match. We returned to Lady Captain with the good news and really enjoyed celebrating at her special evening..

The Finals are to be played at Lisburn against Lurgan on Sat 25th August at 4pm. All Supporters very welcome

In the Quarter final the match is played on neutral ground and the venue was to be at Ballyclare but because our opponents turned out to be Ballyclare another venue had to be found. The ILGU chose Shandon Park and were given a Tee time at 12.57pm on Fri 27th July
The weather was lovely when we arrived but by the time we were about to tee off, there was a very heavy shower. However once it was over we started the match and there was very little more rain during the match.
Diane and Christine got off to a great start and were 5 up after 6 holes ! The other two pairs kept going at a steady pace and were level par or one up or down through the front nine .
Lorraine and Sue then began to pull ahead and it all began to look good but Ballyclare started to fight back.
Diane and Christine lost two or three holes and Leonie and Alwyn’s partners were pulling ahead.
However after a few tense moments Lorraine and Sue pulled ahead and won 3 & 2. Unfortunately Leonie and Alwyn were beaten so it all depended on Diane and Christine who played very steady golf to win on the sixteenth.
The Ballyclare team were very gracious in defeat and wished us luck in the next round.
The Semi final matches were scheduled to be played at Bangor on our Lady Captains Day so we have asked for an alternate date. Shandon are our opponents.
Well done team! I am so proud of you.

We were very lucky to get a lovely sunny day in Larne. We were all made most welcome and the team played very well. All three matches were won at Larne and 15 holes to put towards the return match. This was a great result as none of the pairs had played together before. In fact Lady Captain and Joni had never even met each other!
The matches were played in very good spirit and we enjoyed the hospitality at Larne.

The Larne team were delighted to get another good dry day at Rockmount and the first two matches were very close fought battles. Leonie and Catherine were narrowly beaten 3 & 2 while Noreen and Christine halved their match but did not need to continue because Joyce and Sue had a great win 6 and 4.

I was very proud of the team and congratulate them all .

Sun 20th May - A pleasant sunny afternoon.Whitehead  were a very friendly team and we all got on very well. Our team played exceptionally well and won all three matches and 19 holes bonus.
The two teams bonded really well at the meal after the match and looked forward to the return match at Whitehead.

Friday 1st June Tee - A wonderful sunny afternoon with spectacular views over Belfast and Larne Loughs. Their course was in great order and all three pairs had very closely fought matches. Two were all square after 9 holes. However Diane and Sue were 2 up. We only needed one match to win and once Diane and Sue had won 4 and 3, the others were called in.
We enjoyed a lovely meal and both teams parted great friends.

Thurs. 26th April  - A cool dry evening at Rockmount. Carnalea were a very competitive team with a determination to win. It was a close fought battle and the superb win 8 and 7 at the 12th hole by Diane and Sue gave the team a great boost! Moyra and Alwyn backed them up with a 3 and 2 win. Lorraine and Catherine lost 3 and 1 which kept the advantage of 8 holes for the return match.

Sunday 6th May - A lovely sunny afternoon at Carnalea with spectacular views over Belfast Lough.
Jan and Christine got off to a great start and soon were 5 up but Carnalea fought back
and Jan and Christine did well to win 3 and 2.
The other two pairs had very close matches but despite losing, they kept the holes down to a minimum. Diane and May were determined to finish the 18 holes even though we had won!
Carnalea entertained us to a lovely meal and their Lady President played 8 holes with me.

Four team members went to Roe Park on the Saturday afternoon for a practice round and stayed overnight to be ready for the match on Sunday. The other two joined us on Sunday morning.
The slopes on some of the fairways and the heavy rough made the course quite tricky. However the weather was reasonably kind and we avoided rain until the match was over.
Unfortunately we lost all three matches, although two were very close and only lost at the last 2 holes. Roe had 3 matches and 11 holes.
This result left us a big task at Rockmount the following Sunday.

The teams played very well both home and away, but we needed to win all three matches at Rockmount, and the team were unable to get them.
Jan and Catherine had a great win at Rockmount and the others had very close matches but were unable to beat their opponents or get enough holes.

The team were a pleasure to Captain and this is the first time since I have been captain that we have reached the quarter final. Very well done to everyone who played on the team.

The matches were again played in very good spirit and we enjoyed the hospitality at Roe Park.

Torrential rain all evening at Dunmurry. Moyra and Alwyn did well to win their match 4 and 2 in the difficult conditions. We had good weather conditions at Rockmount on the Sunday.

The teams played very well both home and away. We needed at least two wins at Rockmount, and the team were able to get them.

This result was now down to holes with both teams winning three matches each.
Moyra and Alwyn won 6 and 4 and Leonie and Sue won 8 and 6.
This gave us us a great total of 18 holes to Dunmurry’s 9 holes.

The Team are now into the quarter finals and play Roe Park next.

The matches were again played in very good spirit and we enjoyed the hospitality at Dunmurry.

Wind and more wind, describes the difficult weather conditions on both days, especially at Larne.
The team played very well both home and away. All three matches were won at Rockmount, which gave us less to do when we went to Larne.

The Larne course is right out at the end of Islandmagee, surrounded by the sea and rocky shores.
The last three holes were very tricky in the strong wind and I was delighted that the team coped so well with the challenge.
Leonie and Catherine played the blind par 3 sixteenth hole, brilliantly to win their match and secure the team win. The other two pairs were both one up, but did not need to finish.
The matches were played in very good spirit and we enjoyed the hospitality at Larne.
I was very proud of the team and congratulate them all.

The Larne club was established in 1895 and the members used to row across Larne Lough to play, which was most interesting.

We play Fortwilliam or Dunmurry in the next round.

Great weather on both days and Lady Captain and her partners played some excellent golf winning both their matches so convincingly which gave our team a ten hole advantage. It was not necessary for the last pairs to go beyond the 18th due to the number of holes we had.
The matches were played in very good spirit and comradeship.

This year there are no shots given and the minimum handicap for each pair is 35.

We play Larne in the next round.
