Thurs. 26th April - A cool dry evening at Rockmount. Carnalea were a very competitive team with a determination to win. It was a close fought battle and the superb win 8 and 7 at the 12th hole by Diane and Sue gave the team a great boost! Moyra and Alwyn backed them up with a 3 and 2 win. Lorraine and Catherine lost 3 and 1 which kept the advantage of 8 holes for the return match. Sunday 6th May - A lovely sunny afternoon at Carnalea with spectacular views over Belfast Lough.
Jan and Christine got off to a great start and soon were 5 up but Carnalea fought back
and Jan and Christine did well to win 3 and 2.
The other two pairs had very close matches but despite losing, they kept the holes down to a minimum. Diane and May were determined to finish the 18 holes even though we had won!
Carnalea entertained us to a lovely meal and their Lady President played 8 holes with me.
Well done team. Round 2 is against Whitehead

Four team members went to Roe Park on the Saturday afternoon for a practice round and stayed overnight to be ready for the match on Sunday. The other two joined us on Sunday morning.
The slopes on some of the fairways and the heavy rough made the course quite tricky. However the weather was reasonably kind and we avoided rain until the match was over.
Unfortunately we lost all three matches, although two were very close and only lost at the last 2 holes. Roe had 3 matches and 11 holes.
This result left us a big task at Rockmount the following Sunday.
The teams played very well both home and away, but we needed to win all three matches at Rockmount, and the team were unable to get them.
Jan and Catherine had a great win at Rockmount and the others had very close matches but were unable to beat their opponents or get enough holes.
The team were a pleasure to Captain and this is the first time since I have been captain that we have reached the quarter final. Very well done to everyone who played on the team.
The matches were again played in very good spirit and we enjoyed the hospitality at Roe Park.
I was very proud of the team and congratulate them all.

Torrential rain all evening at Dunmurry. Moyra and Alwyn did well to win their match 4 and 2 in the difficult conditions. We had good weather conditions at Rockmount on the Sunday.
The teams played very well both home and away. We needed at least two wins at Rockmount, and the team were able to get them.
This result was now down to holes with both teams winning three matches each.
Moyra and Alwyn won 6 and 4 and Leonie and Sue won 8 and 6.
This gave us us a great total of 18 holes to Dunmurry’s 9 holes.
The Team are now into the quarter finals and play Roe Park next.
The matches were again played in very good spirit and we enjoyed the hospitality at Dunmurry.
I was very proud of the team and congratulate them all.

Wind and more wind, describes the difficult weather conditions on both days, especially at Larne.
The team played very well both home and away. All three matches were won at Rockmount, which gave us less to do when we went to Larne.
The Larne course is right out at the end of Islandmagee, surrounded by the sea and rocky shores.
The last three holes were very tricky in the strong wind and I was delighted that the team coped so well with the challenge.
Leonie and Catherine played the blind par 3 sixteenth hole, brilliantly to win their match and secure the team win. The other two pairs were both one up, but did not need to finish.
The matches were played in very good spirit and we enjoyed the hospitality at Larne.
I was very proud of the team and congratulate them all.
The Larne club was established in 1895 and the members used to row across Larne Lough to play, which was most interesting.
We play Fortwilliam or Dunmurry in the next round.

Great weather on both days and Lady Captain and her partners played some excellent golf winning both their matches so convincingly which gave our team a ten hole advantage. It was not necessary for the last pairs to go beyond the 18th due to the number of holes we had.
The matches were played in very good spirit and comradeship.
This year there are no shots given and the minimum handicap for each pair is 35.
We play Larne in the next round.
