UPDATE - 11/9/17

The Junior Cowdy Team played their first leg of the Final at Loughgall yesterday (10th Sept).

As to be expected in a Final both teams were well matched and going through 9 the match was well in the balance.

In the end, the result was 3-1 to Loughgall, with no hole advantage. Home advantage certainly played its part on key holes.

The match results were

John McGrath & Stephen Laverty lost 3&2

Tom Sloan & Raymond Jackson won 7&6

David Osborne & Jonny Lath lost 3&2

Declan McGrady & Jim Madden lost 1 down.

All the pairings did Rockmount proud.

Thanks go to the 2 reserves Malcolm Foreman and Stephen Young who turned spotters for the team ably supported by Robert Burns and Fergus McCartney.

It’s only half-time and we have certainly all to play for at Rockmount on the 24th Sept at 2pm.

The large turnout of Club Members to support the team in the weather conditions was greatly appreciated by the Team.

UPDATE - (30/7/17)

Sunday 30th July saw another superb performance put in by the Junior Cowdy team against Lisburn.

The match was again played in exemplary spirit by both teams.

As expected from last week’s tight matches the Lisburn team showed their strength at home. Through 9 we were level in one just down in 2 and up in 1.

The final pairing proved decisive on the back nine to win 5&4 and all the other matches were called in.

Thanks to all the members who came down to support the team.

Thanks to the Captain, John Hinds, for seeing all the four-balls off the first tee on a busy day of matches for him. Thanks also to Vice Captain Frank McWilliams who supported the team all through the match, the team Vice Captain Fergus McCartney as spotter for the first match, Tommy McCabe as spotter on second match and Council Rep Brendan Houston as spotter on the 3rd match. These three were great motivation for all their pairs.

A great team effort by everyone involved over the 2 legs to get the win.

The team now go on to the Semi-Final against Mourne with dates to be arranged.

The match was played in exemplary spirit by both teams.

As was said at the meal this is only half-time and given the closeness of matches today full focus will be needed for the return leg next Sun at 2:30pm at Lisburn.
