The Jimmy Carroll Cup All Ireland Seniors Tournament run by Westmanstown GC in Dublin was organised with a high standard of professionalism by and at Bangor GC.
As for our golf, in the words of an old blues song “we are not disillusioned, we are not disillusioned, but we’re getting there”.
In this fourball better ball competition our scores were only good.  When we left the winning team had scored 122 points.  With three pairs to count this was an average of just over 40 points per pair. Third place with three to qualify was at 119, so we were only a point or two adrift on 114 points and all of us left shots out there on the course we should not have done.
Apart from the odd spit and spot of rain it was a great day for golf, the course was in great order, none of the pairs let the side down and the craic at the après golf meal was good … particularly the story about the lady golfer and the bushes … no prizes for guessing who was spinning the yarn. We will be back at Bangor again next year for another go.
Thanks to all who gave of their best, especially Colin McNeill who acted as team Captain in my absence.
